Guide

Rank higher in Airbnb search.

The known criteria, the concrete actions to take this week, and why relying on this ranking alone is risky.

How ranking works, in short

Airbnb does not publish the details of its algorithm, and nobody outside the company can guarantee them. What the platform does communicate publicly are the broad families of criteria it takes into account. Ranking is also personalized: two travelers typing the same search do not see exactly the same listings.

The criteria Airbnb highlights

What you can do this week

  1. 1

Complete your listing to 100 %

Every empty field is a missed chance to appear in a filter. Go through your amenities one by one, then check everything with the free audit.

  2. 2

    Reply fast, every time

Turn on notifications and reply even to requests you decline. Responsiveness is one of the criteria Airbnb highlights.

  3. 3

Keep your calendar up to date

An up-to-date calendar prevents cancellations, which are the most penalizing thing a host can do.

  4. 4

    Ask for reviews, simply

A short message after check-out is enough. Regular reviews beat one wave of reviews and then nothing.

  5. 5

Reshoot your photos if they are old

It is the change that moves your click rate the most. Our photo guide walks through the method.

What is just rumor

Plenty of “tricks” circulate in host groups: deleting and relisting your place, editing it every day, logging in at a fixed hour. None of this is documented by Airbnb, and relisting mostly loses your reviews and your history. Be wary of any method that promises the top spot.

The real limit of this ranking

Even perfectly optimized, your listing depends on a ranking you do not control, that can change overnight, and that your competitors are working on too. That is why the most resilient hosts build a second source of visitors: their own website, their social media, word of mouth and returning guests.

A website of your own shows up on Google, can be shared on a flyer or a QR code, and stays online whatever happens. Our guide explains how to get your Airbnb found on Google.
